Passion fruit leaves for high blood pressure

Discover how to use passion fruit leaves for high blood pressure.
Passion fruit or granadilla is an exotic fruit from a climbing plant in South America. Low in calories, passion fruit is rich in fiber, provitamin A and vitamin C. It is generally eaten raw. Just cut it in half and scoop out the pulp and seeds with a teaspoon.
In South America, granadilla has been used extensively in traditional medicine to treat anxiety, insomnia, asthma, bronchitis and urinary tract infections. In Brazil a leaf infusion is used as a sedative. In the West Indies the leaves are used for the treatment of arterial hypertension.
In France, sedative preparations based on passionflower use another passionflower: the common passionflower P. incarnata. These two passionflowers are very similar both morphologically and microscopically and have often been confused even by specialists.
However, the minimal morphological differences (at the level of the leaf veins) result in a significant difference in terms of anxiolytic activity: at an oral dose of 125 mg/kg, the methanol extract of Passiflora incarnata manifests anxiolytic activity significant while that of P. edulis shows no activity.
There is currently no objective scientific validation of the beneficial effects of Passiflora edulis. You should know that some short-term negative effects of fresh leaf extracts have been described. The plant has shown pancreatic and hepatobiliary toxicity in humans and animals.
