Nigella, its scientific name Nigella Sativa, also called Habba Sawda or black cumin, is a black seed with multiple health benefits. To get the most of its benefits, there are many ways to do it.
Discover all the ways to consume black seed to enjoy all its benefits. This way to find quality black seed, Nigella sativa, essential for making all the remedies in this article.
Black seed is the basic form of this natural remedy. It is from this black seed that we will extract all the by-products: powder, oil, capsules, etc. It is for me the best way to consume black seed.
It will be more effective to reduce the seeds to powder before use to facilitate the absorption of black seed by the body.
How? ‘Or’ What? All you have to do is pass them through a coffee grinder or any other device allowing them to be reduced to a fine powder: mixer, blender, grinders, etc.
Nigella seeds digest well, but for them to be effective, you must at least chew them well.
Advantages: this is surely the easiest and fastest way to do it, no preparation, it’s straightforward. If you like Nigella, it will also be very pleasant.
Disadvantages: their taste is quite pronounced, which is why it is not a very widespread use.
This is not the most effective way to enjoy the benefits of black seed either, because even by chewing the seeds well, some will still be digested without being assimilated by the body, it should ideally be ground beforehand.
Method: ideally, put the seeds in a blender, then directly eat the powder in the prescribed amount, usually a teaspoon morning and evening. If you don’t grind the seeds, chew well before swallowing.
It is the most commonly prescribed natural remedy to cure black seed, and it is by far my favorite use.
Advantages: honey and black seed, it is the association of two miracle products which are already effective separately, but even more when combined.
This is also the way that black cumin is used to treat cancer. Nigella has a strong and quite bitter fragrance, the honey will break this bitterness and the mixture, therefore, becomes very easy to consume, even for those who do not like its taste.
This is one of the easiest and fastest ways to do it, you can prepare the mixture ahead of time and consume it as you go, it’s straightforward.
Method: ideally, put the seeds in a blender, then mix 1 to 2 doses of the black seed for 2 doses of honey. Eat the prescribed amount in the morning on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before breakfast, and optionally in the evening, usually a teaspoon.
If you don’t grind the seeds, chew well before swallowing. This is one of the most effective ways to use it, especially if you are grinding the seeds into a powder before use.
A common way to consume them is to incorporate them into your daily cooking. For this use, we often look for the taste properties of the seeds, but it is also a way to benefit from all its benefits.
Advantages: it’s a fairly easy way to do it because Nigella can be used in relatively all dishes, even desserts. By mixing it with food, it will be easier to consume it, especially if you find its flavor too strong. It is a spice, so if you like it, it will give great flavor to your recipes.
Cons: Difficult to practice this method every day, because I’m not sure you want to eat black seed flavored dishes every day! In addition, if you have a dosage, you will not have to share your meal to respect the prescribed dose.
This is not the most effective way to enjoy the benefits of black seed either, because even by chewing the seeds well, some will still be digested without being assimilated by the body, it will then be necessary to grind them beforehand.
Method: ideally, put the seeds in a blender, then add the powder in the prescribed amount directly to your dish, usually a teaspoon. If you don’t grind the seeds, chew them well before swallowing.
This is one of my favorite uses. The seeds can be infused in water as in any drink: tea, coffee, rooibos, milk, fruit juice, chocolate, etc.
Pros: This is one of the most effective ways to use it, especially if you are grinding the seeds into a powder before use.
Pairing the seed with a scented drink makes it easier to consume it, especially if you are not a fan of its taste, whereas if you like it the drink will only get better.
One of the advantages is also being able to easily combine black seed with other natural products to obtain an even better drink for health, and more effective for the desired effect.
For example, we will use the black seed to help get pregnant by combining it with fenugreek, or we will use the black seed to lose weight by combining it with cinnamon.
Method: ideally, put the seeds in a blender, then dilute the powder directly in the drink and the prescribed amount, usually a teaspoon morning and evening.
If you do not grind the seeds, you will have to boil (or at least heat almost to a boil, if the drink does not lend itself to boiling) the drink, and let the seeds infuse for about 10 minutes before drinking.

Because yes, they are not all the same. How to recognize a good black seed oil? Here are 4 essential points to respect for a pure and quality oil:
• You have to buy it organically: it is the only way to be sure that the oil has not been in contact with pesticides and other products harmful to health.
• It is necessary to verify the origin of the seed used to extract the oil: Nigella Sativa used for care grows mainly in Ethiopia and its region, in Syria its region, in Egypt and its region, as well as in Morocco. It is better to choose these origins.
• It is necessary to check the process used to extract the oil: the best oil is a cold-pressed oil, ideally a 1st press oil.
• You have to check its smell and taste: difficult if you are not a connoisseur, but the oil must have a strong smell characteristic of the spice, and a very pronounced, almost spicy taste. Beware of mild oils which are often diluted.
Contrary to what one can read, the color of the oil is not very significant, because it can vary widely according to the seeds or the variety.
The same as black seed:
All the methods explained in the previous paragraph apply to black seed oil, you can replace the seed with the oil in all your remedies. Black seed oil is very practical and easy to use.
The advantage of the oil compared to the seed is that it can be applied directly to the skin. It is an oil with multiple cosmetic virtues that we will detail in a specialized article.
Use it to massage painful parts of the body: joints, muscles, bruises, headaches (massage temples).
