Does drinking water help you lose weight?

An Italian nutritionist studied the effects of its consumption for ten years

Nicola Sorrentino, renowned Italian nutritionist and professor of Nutritional Hygiene at the University of Pavia, wrote a book of dietary recommendations entitled “The Water Diet”.

The academic, a doctor to several famous Italian celebrities, studied the effects of drinking water for ten years.

According to the Spanish newspaper ABC, this cookbook includes a “cleansing and energy diet” that eliminates fatty foods, fried foods, and alcoholic beverages and prioritizes drinks, fruits, and vegetables. Water “is the secret of everything,” according to ABC. Here are some of the diet tips:

Drinking water helps you lose weight

It is recommended to drink eight or ten glasses of water per day throughout the day, always before eating.

Although the “slimming effect” of water is not compared to exercising or starting a regimen, it is a significant contributor.

Sorrentino affirmed that drinking water allows “to accelerate the effects of a hypocaloric diet”, losing weight faster and eliminating the feeling of hunger.

Satisfy hunger

The most “diet” food that exists is water. It has no calories, it helps to eliminate toxins because it helps with drainage. But as if that weren’t enough, it also satisfies hunger.

According to Sorrentino, drinking two glasses of water before breakfast, lunch and dinner make the meal “filling more.” Sparkling water enhances this feeling.

Increased metabolism

According to Sorrentino, drinking two glasses of water (half a liter) a day, at room temperature, has been shown to increase metabolic rate by 30%. In simple words, you increase your speed to burn calories by 30%.

ABC comments that “in all studies”, water ingested on an empty stomach had a “short-lived” effect on metabolism (half to one hour).

For this reason, Sorrentino recommends drinking water at different times of the day. An example might be half a liter four times a day, which multiplies the calorie loss by four.

Despite the benefits of water, the nutritionist warns that drinking an excessive amount of water can have “unwanted effects”, especially for those who suffer from heart or kidney problems.

Food and care

Sorrentino recommends not drinking too much tea, coffee, or drinks with high caffeine content.

On the other hand, he suggests limiting the consumption of wine to one glass per day and suggests not drinking alcoholic beverages due to their negative effects on the intestine.

He also recommends eating all four meals and “progressively” cutting out the amount of sugar.
