•If the treatment is in high doses, the withdrawal syndrome can be severe: delirium and convulsions.
•There is a possibility of anterograde amnesia (forgetfulness of upcoming events).
Also, other symptoms that may appear after taking the drug are sedation, drowsiness, vertigo, urinary retention, gastrointestinal disorders, lack of coordination (ataxia), changes in libido, and yellowish skin (jaundice), and abnormalities in the blood (blood dyscrasias).
It can also cause other more abnormal effects such as aggressiveness (in children and the elderly) or produce muscle weakness and increased sensitivity to benzodiazepines in the CNS.
On the other hand, the following warnings and risks of adverse reactions are indicated in the prospectus :
•In case of pregnancy, use only under the doctor’s recommendation. Diazepam has effects on pregnancy.
•If you are breastfeeding, you should avoid its administration.
•It is not an authorized drug in children under 6 years of age.
•This medicine cannot be manipulated or broken, that is, if you have swallowing problems, you cannot ingest it.
•If it is being taken, it must be taken into account that it can negatively affect driving.
•It contains lactose as an excipient, so those who have lactose intolerance should not take it.
•It should be used with caution during heat waves.
•Also, there are several groups of people for whom this medicine is contraindicated. Specifically, those who have: respiratory depression, liver and kidney failure, glaucoma, and myasthenia gravis. In this sense, the risk should also be evaluated in patients with psychosis, seizures, and hypoalbuminemia.
